Presentation Details

In Western Australia there is no specific regulatory requirement for the removal of LNAPL in groundwater if it doesn’t present an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. In the absence of regulatory drivers, how do you determine how far remediation should go, or if it should proceed at all? Some of the other reasons to consider remediation include whether it represents an overall cost benefit for the broader project objectives, timing to resolution, potential constraints represented by contamination, tolerance for uncertainty of outcomes, corporate governance/perception, market stigma. It can be complex to appreciate a contamination problem within this multitude of potential considerations and to identify an optimum approach to remediation in this context.
