A Bit About
Lara
Lara Harland was chair of Engineers Australia Environmental College in 2019 when she took on the role of developing a sustainability course recommended by a workshop with other EA groups. Initiated by what she learned from a Harvard University short course, she embraced psychology and presentation techniques, including learning animation. Lara sees this course as her gift to society, her raison d'etre. Five years of work on it, sacrificing paying work sometimes five days per week, sometimes three. The first module of the course is ready. Steve Posselt was chair of the Sustainable Engineering Society at the time when he teamed up with Lara. Since then he has found her irrepressible drive and passion astounding, way over the top, not normal. Then he thought about how he had paddled to Paris for COP21, on the way becoming the only person to have paddled up, (yes that’s upstream) the Lower Mississippi in a flood. He decided he wasn’t in a position to cast aspersions on someone else’s level of commitment.
Presentation Details
Lara and Steve will present a history of how the course originated, problems and challenges that occurred, aspirations of what the course will mean and how you, as an individual, are key to how the next few decades will unfold.
